Referring to Outpatient Department
As of the 1st March 2023 the outpatient referral process to the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital will change. We will only accept referrals for our outpatient departments via healthlink or healthmail and with a fully completed RVEEH referral form. This change is necessary to maintain the processing times of our increasing volumes of outpatient referrals within local and national policy.
We encourage all referrals to come through Healthlink as this is the safest and most appropriate method. Healthlink provide a web-based messaging service which allows the secure transfer of patient information over the internet into the GP system. Healthlink Online is free to GPs and full set-up and training on the use of the system is provided. If you are interested in registering, you can apply on www.healthlink.ie
If you wish to update a referral already submitted or cannot access healthlink, you can do so by completing the appropriate referral form available on this website and submit using the secure Healthmail service to appointments@rveeh.ie. For more information on Healthmail please see www.healthmail.ie . Please do not resubmit an existing referral through Healthlink.
Please complete the referral forms in full to assist the medical team in the hospital to direct your patient to the most appropriate clinical pathway.
Please do not give OPD referral letters to patients as they often inadvertently end up attending the A&E department.
If you have concerns regarding a patient you wish to refer or who is already attending the A&E department, please contact the Emergency G.P. Liaison Nurse who will provide you with a direct link to an A&E doctor if necessary.
To aid in referral letter triage we have developed speciality specific referral letters. Using these or ensuring that the information contained in them is integrated into your own referral letter will help to ensure that letters are processed in a timely manner.
