When Should a Patient Come to A&E?

Ophthalmology – If you experience

  • Sudden loss of vision
  • Sudden severe eye pain
  • Injury or direct trauma to the eye

ENT – Head and Neck – If you experience

  • Sudden loss of hearing
  • Sudden severe Ear, Nose or Throat pain
  • Injury or bleeding to the Ear, Nose or Throat
  • Complications following recent surgery at the Eye and Ear Hospital

If you are unsure if you should attend the A&E Department at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital please contact your G.P. for advice. It may be more appropriate to refer you to a Community Ophthalmic Clinic or other Primary Care services in your area.

NB: Routine hearing test service is not provided by the Accident and Emergency Department
